Brook House
Where luxury craftmanship meets comfort.
MADE TO STAND OUT
Built in the 14th Century, the house was originally a farm cottage forming part of the old Spye Park estate which, in smaller form, still remains to this day. Mark and Cynthia Wilkinson bought Brook House in the late 1980s along with the surrounding 75 acres and embarked on a 12-year mammoth renovation project of the derelict cottage. Keen to keep as much of the old cottage and its character as possible, Mark designed the extension to fit around the cottage's form, the front facing facade still true, as is the main structure which encompasses the kitchen, snug and master bedroom on the 1st floor; beams are still visible and Mark even kept the old guttering and windows inside the house which now form part of the large bookcase in the main living space.
Mark Wilkinson himself was an extraordinary man, a designer, a maverick and an inventor; Brook House is a perfect showcase of Mark's beautiful and unique design and ingenious inventions, the ground floor bathroom door mechanism, for example, make sure you take a look. Mark was awarded an OBE in the 2009 Queens New Years Honours for his services to design and charity; just a few of the many reasons for the accolade are evident in Brook House. You may not realise it but Mark Wilkinson is responsible for some of the things you may well have in your own home. Do you have a country style kitchen which forms the focal point of your home for family and friends? Mark designed the very first country kitchen and brought the idea of the kitchen as the heart of the home into the mainstream. What about a stone worktop in your kitchen? Mark was the first to put granite, marble and stone worktops into kitchens and it is still one of the most popular design features to this day.
All this being said, Brook House is our home which we love dearly. It holds many fond memories and we can't wait for you to enjoy it as much as we do. Our home is your home; relax, walk the country paths, reconnect, drink wine, play games, explore the local area and most importantly, make memories, for memories are the photographs we can carry closest to our hearts. Enjoy!
With much love,
Cynthia, Victoria, Gregory and Archie and Atticus (our dogs)
